Gravity Presents DJ Steaw – 19/01/2013

Saturday the 19th of January saw the return of the intimate house night Gravity to Nottingham. Being all such big fans of house music at Shut The Front Door we decided to check it out to see how it went down.

The night was being held at the Canal House and with quite a limited capacity the night had a very exclusive feel to it. DJs Luke Emerson and Cal Lewis started off the proceedings with plenty of deep house cuts as the crowd started to grow. With an impressive sound system for such a small venue and a mutual love for house music quite evident in the crowd, the night had a really good feel to it.

The nights headliner was upcoming French artist DJ Steaw. His latest EP entitled Rhubarbe was charted by Juno as one of the best releases of 2012. He’s had releases on labels such as Local Talk and Traxx Underground – you should expect to hear a lot more from him in 2013. The crowd were lapping up his bouncy 90’s style house and tracks such as Sky Hunt and Think It Over were real highlights of his set. The Frenchman’s mixing was immaculate and a vast knowledge of house music was evident in his set as Detroit house and French house influences shone through.

Other music came from Nottingham regulars and House Arrest residents The Giraffe the Pelly and Us. Thumping house tracks kept the crowd moving and their own production The Big Beat featured in what was an impressive set from start to finish.

The night as a whole was a great success and seemed thoroughly enjoyed by all. DJ Steaw was a great booking by the guys at Gravity and I look forward to seeing what else they have in store for us.
